The Cinema Audio Society recently joined together with the Motion Picture Sound Editors and The Association of Motion Picture Sound in sending an open letter to the entertainment industry regarding grouping together key sound professionals and positioning them in the credits in proximity with other key roles.

Desperados III is a story-driven, hardcore tactical stealth game, set in a ruthless Wild West scenario. Songwriter extraordinaire Diane Warren and operatic prima donna Anna Netrebko have been named the Laureates for the 2020 Polar Music Prize, to be presented in a ceremony at the Grand Hotel on June 9. The announcement was made Tuesday morning (Feb. 11) at Stockholm City Hall by Alfons Karabuda, chairman of the Polar Music Prize award committee.

The Motion Picture Sound Editors tonight presented the 67th MPSE Annual Golden Reel Awards at a black-tie ceremony at the Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles. Golden Reel Awards recognizing outstanding achievement in sound editing were presented in 23 categories encompassing feature films, long-form and short-form television, animation, documentaries, games, special venue and other media.

Dolby Laboratories’ Dolby Institute and Sundance Institute, along with the Ray and Dagmar Dolby Family Fund, today announced that Honey Boy, directed by Alma Har’el and written by Shia LaBeouf, and The Sound of Silence, directed by Michael Tyburski and co-written by Ben Nabors and Michael Tyburski, have both received the Dolby Family Fellowship. The Fellowship offers recipients a wide array of post-production technologies including Dolby Atmos, and new this year, the addition of Dolby Vision to further amplify the filmmakers’ visions. Honey Boy will premiere at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival in Dolby Atmos at the Eccles Theatre on Friday January 25 at 3:30 p.m. MT, and the world premiere of The Sound of Silence takes place Saturday, January 26, in Dolby Atmos at the Ray Theater at 12:30 p.m. MT.

To celebrate the release if Bohemian Rhapsody in theaters on November 2, Queen fans around the world recorded their best rendition of “Bohemian Rhapsody” at PutMeInBohemian.com. John Warhurst, the supervising sound and music editor working on the film, mixed thousands of fans’ recordings together to create part of the crowd singing during the live performance scene in the movie.

Disneyland’s version of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the highly anticipated Star Wars-themed land, will open in summer of 2019, while Disney World’s version in Hollywood Studios will open later in Fall 2019. But while the grand opening of those lands are a little less than a year away, the Disney Parks Magical Christmas Day Parade just made that far, far away premiere date seem just a bit closer. The annual parade gave us a Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge sneak peek that will hold Star Wars fans over until the summer and fall 2019 debuts.
