Michael Hearst of the delightful Unusual Creatures project has just released his first episode of “Songs for Unusual Creatures.” The premier features the Kronos Quartet and the Aye-Aye, an unusual kind of primate! For more curious animals, check out Hearst’s book “Unusual Creatures: A Mostly Accurate Account of Some of Earth’s Strangest Animals.”

Earth’s most peculiar animals paired with Earth’s most peculiar music. Episode 1, “Aye-aye,” focuses on a nocturnal lemur from Madagascar, and features the Kronos Quartet, as well as a visit to the Duke Lemur Center.

To celebrate some of the most bizarre animals on the planet (as well as some of the most bizarre musical instruments), Michael Hearst has devised Song For Unusual Creatures - an album of instrumental songs for kids AND adults, featuring the Kronos Quartet, The Microscopic Septet, Margaret Leng Tan, the LEMUR Robots, and some of the strangest musical instruments you’ve never heard of!

The album features guests musicians, including Kronos Quartet, The Microscopic Septet, Margaret Leng Tan, the League of Electronic Musical Urban Robots; and also features some of the strangest musical instruments on the planet: daxophone, theremin, claviola, stylophone, glass armonica, tubax.
