SoundWorks Collection Interview Series - The Sound of The Martian with Re-recording Mixer Paul Massey

In this exclusive SoundWorks Collection interview we talk with music and dialogue Sound Re-recording Mixer Paul Massey about his work on Director Ridley Scott’s The Martian. The final mix was completed at Twickenham Studios in London and music was recorded and mixed by Peter Cobbin at Abbey Road Studios for Composer Harry Gregson-Williams.

Paul also discusses working with editor Pietro Scalia and sound designer/supervising sound editor Oliver Tarney to craft the multiple futz and radio instances throughout the film.

ABOUT PAUL MASSEY:

Paul Massey received Oscar-nominations for his work on 3:10 to Yuma (Best Achievement in Sound Mixing, 2007), Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (Best Achievement in Sound Mixing, 2006), Walk the Line (Best Achievement in Sound Mixing, 2005), Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (Best Sound Mixing, 2003), Air Force One (Best Sound, 1997), Legends of the Fall (Best Sound, 1994). His BAFTA wins for Best Sound include Walk the Line, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, and Almost Famous.

Massey has over 30 years of experience in sound mixing and is originally from England where he studied music and worked in studio and live music recording.
