The Sound of The Bear - Season 4
In this exclusive SoundWorks Collection conversation, we pull up a chair with the sound team behind THE BEAR to break down Season 4, Episode 3, “Scallop.” Featuring Re-Recording Mixer Steve “Major” Giammaria, CAS, Production Sound Mixer Scott D. Smith, CAS, and Foley Mixer Ryan Collison, CAS.
The team unpacks the episode’s music-driven cold open, where Sydney’s scallop prep plays almost entirely under score, we dig into how Foley and production tracks are layered and swapped moment to moment to keep every bite, footstep, and utensil feeling alive, how the magical “curtain” of sound separates the chaos of the kitchen from the calm of the dining room, and how a single, sprawling Claire-and-Carmy argument was captured and mixed to preserve its raw dynamic range without losing the emotional gut-punch. We also talk shop on turnaround: mixing a 30-minute episode of television in three days, start to finish.
As the series wraps its final season, the trio reflects on four seasons of building a sound world that never chases “cool for cool’s sake,” always in service of story.
